It’s time to rewind through some of the best blog posts of the week related to writing, books, creativity – and sometimes just some other fun but random stuff. Each Friday I link to my favorite posts of the week so you have another chance to catch an interesting post you might have missed or discover a new blogger.
Here are my Friday Reruns for this week.
Last week, Kate Monahan wrote a wonderful post about self-doubt on MFA Confidential. This week she follows up that post with a reminder that writing should also be fun in The wind in my face, the play in writing.
This post is actually two weeks old and I’m not sure how I missed it. But you must read this post: Energy by Johanna Harness in which she advises writers to “quit making your dream a chore.”
Justie Musk was on a roll this week with three wonderful posts on Tribal Writer. In write hard, write fast, she writes, “the only way to write is forward and through.” She write about a ‘crisis of faith’ in smash the boundaries and let the new stuff in and encourages us to be mindful of the necessary balance between solitude and community in one of the challenges for any writer.
Although we’re in the midst of what should be a joyful holiday season, you can’t ignore the prevalence of pain in the lives of so many as well. On unwrap your mind, Patrick Stoeckmann explores The Lessons of Pain and Joanna Penn wrote a great post on The Creative Penn: When Should You Use Your Personal Pain in Your Writing?
It’s also the time of year for reflecting on where you’ve been and making plans for where you’re headed in the year ahead. Jody Hudlund provides a roadmap for writers of almost any stage in How to Set Writing Priorities and Seth Baker shows the power of resistance in Removing Barriers to Creating Amazing Things. Are you stuck? Ali Hale says You Need to See the Box Before You Can Think Outside of It on Aliventures and Lori Deschene offers up 10 Questions to Ask Yourself Before Giving Up on Your Dream on Tiny Buddha. And if too many ideas are your problem, on The 99%, Michael Karnjanaprakorn writes about Battling the Half-Life of Idea Execution.
In Withholding in Writing: Not Just for Relationships Anymore… Elizabeth Stark wrote about the power of posing questions in your stories that compel your readers to search for answers.
In this guest post on Daily Writing Tips: Hint to Writers: Use the Thesaurus with Caution, Jennifer Blanchard writes about her love for the thesaurus while reminding us that “not all synonyms are created equal.”
This week Deborah Riley-Magnus kicked off an 8-part mini seminar on building your author platform with Author Platform Building, One Plank at a Time. Check out the first post here and look for new posts on Writeaholic each Tuesday covering a different aspect of creating and developing your platform.
