Here are my Friday Reruns for this week.
On this week’s Writing Wednesday, Steven Pressfield wrote about Self-Doubt and his internal process for battling Resistance.
Jesaka Long gave some great ideas on salvaging the remnants of your writing in 5 Ways To Use Leftover Words to Dish Up New Writing on the a.k.a. writer blog.
why you need to write like a bad girl is a 2-part series by Justine Musk explaining why you need to be selfish and claim your ‘right’ at a writer. part 1 | part 2
“Limit your subject” is the first piece of writing advice offered in this great post by Mike Consol posted on The Plot Café: The Writing Secrets of Ayn Rand.
If you’re struggling with plot, Suzannah wrote a wonderful post on Write it Sideways giving seven ways to use someone else’s plot for your story: How to Steal a Plot for Your Book (and get away with it). And if subplots are your problem, check out Laura Cross’s post on About a Screenplay: 15 Tips to Create Effective Subplots.
Let’s talk about sex. This year’s Bad Sex in Fiction Awards were announced this week promoting posts from Davis Hewson: Do we really need sex in fiction? and Lit Drift’s Alex Lam: How exactly does one write good sex?
I’m a big fan of any writing advice that encourages reading and this week there were quite a few of them. Natalie Whipple has a great list on Between Fact & Fiction with What I Learned From Reading from her month of reading and David Hewson writes: In order to write books you have to read books. On Write it Sideways, Suzannah encourages readers to open their horizons to all kinds of books in Improve Your Writing by Reading Rubbish and Blair Hurley details a writing assignment from her graduate writing program where they were instructed to Read a Genre Novel for Structure.
Jennifer Blanchard highlighted the 43 Most Inspiring Writing Advice Posts of 2009 at Procrastinating Writers - and don’t forget to check out the essay contest happening there this month as well. “How I Overcame Procrastination This Year.” The winning essay writer will win a copy of My Story Writer in addition to some other great prizes!
